WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- After clubbing three home runs in two days, Whitman College sophomore Kyles Moyes has been named Northwest Conference Player of the Week for baseball.
Moyes, who plays left field for the Missionaries, hit a home run in three straight games last weekend as Whitman took two of three decisions from Puget Sound at Borleske Stadium.
By driving in six runs and scoring five, Moyes accounted for 11 of the 17 runs Whitman scored in the three-game series.
His three-run home run on Sunday was the difference in Whitman's 4-2 victory. He also hit a round-tripper in both ends of Saturday's twinbill, which the two teams split.
In the three games, Moyes collected five hits in 10 officials at-bats and generated a 1.400 slugging percentage. He also handled four put-outs in the field without an error.
Moyes is tied for the early season lead in home runs with four.
Whitman players have won the player-of-the-week award for two straight weeks; freshman Peter Valentine the previous week's winner.
The last Whitman players to win the award in successive weeks were pitcher Hunter Simpson and first baseman Simon Pollock in April of 2005.
Whitman continues NWC play this weekend with a three-game series against Pacific Lutheran in Tacoma, Wash.
