WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Corina Gabbert booted her third hat trick of the season and Courtney Porter posted her 25th career shutout to power Whitman College to a 3-0 season-ending soccer victory Friday afternoon at the Whitman Athletic Fields.

Wrapping up its season on a strong note (4-1-1 in last six games), Whitman finished with records of 7-8-1 in the Northwest Conference and 8-9-1 overall.

Lewis & Clark (2-11-2 NWC, 3-11-5) concludes its season on Saturday with an 11 a.m. game against Whitworth in Spokane, Wash.

Gabbert, a senior captain, put Whitman on top with her first goal in the 26th minute of the first half. Running onto a through ball from junior Kristin Innes and shaking free from a defender, Gabbert took the ball up the left side and fired to the far post as the keeper came out to force the issue.

Gabbert's second goal came six minutes into the second half. Sophomore Amy Hasson shed a defender in the right corner before sending a long cross to the far post, where Gabbert's header made it 2-0 Whitman.

It was Hasson's team-leading eighth assist of the season.

With the second-half clock winding down on her superlative career, Gabbert took a pass from sophomore Marisol Fonzeca and scrambled through the left side of the defense before beating Lewis & Clark's keeper at point-blank range.

It was Gabbert's 19th goal of the season, coming near the end of the game's 88th minute.

Meanwhile, with her defense limiting the Lewis & Clark offense, Porter made four saves to notch her seventh shutout of the season. Porter ended her last season with a flourish, blanking five of her last eight opponents. She surrendered just one goal in one of those eight games, a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Willamette.

Senior DeeDee McCormick helped anchor Whitman's defensive backline, which yielded just 12 shots. Senior midfielders Liz Forbes and Kendall Shibuya also played their last games in a Missionary uniform.

One of Lewis & Clark's best scoring opportunities came early in the second half, when Aly Robinson's corner kick bounced around the Whitman goal mouth for a few uncomfortable moments before the ball was cleared. Katie Browning's shot during the melee was blocked.

Whitman outshot the Pioneers 20-13, which included a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Lewis & Clark got two shots each from Browning, Katrina Weisbecker, Liska Haval and Gina Watkins.

Gabbert took 13 shots for Whitman, putting six on goal. Those shots included a penalty kick with two minutes left in the first half, but Pioneer keeper Elise Delgado made the correct move, sliding to her left to pluck the PK from the air.

With 19 goals and six assists in just 17 games (she lost a few games to injury earlier this fall), Gabbert registered Whitman's most prolific individual scoring campaign in more than two decades. She finished her career with 45 goals and 12 assists, giving her 102 points overall.

Kristen Berndt, who graduated in 2008, had 44 goals and 15 assists in her four years. Thirteen goals was the most Berndt scored in any one season.

Keri Hall Greenheck, a 1988 graduate, is Whitman's all-time leading scorer for women's soccer. Although statistical records for her era are not complete, she finished her four-year career with at least 68 goals and 20 assists.

After recovering from an early season injury, Gabbert did most of her scoring damage this season in the final 11 games, combining 18 goals and three assists over a five-week span.
