WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitman College golfer Brian Barton is one of seven athletes named to the All-Northwest Conference men's golf team.

       Brian Barton

Barton, a sophomore from Pasco, Wash., earned his all-conference spot in two ways. He won the NWC Fall Classic last October, and he was one of the top finishers at last weekend's NWC Championship Tournament, where he tied for second place.

Barton, who shot even par in the opening round of the NWC Championships, led Whitman to fifth place in the team scoring, its highest finish in years.

In last October's Fall Classic, Barton birdied the last four holes to win by three strokes at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, Wash.

Two weeks earlier on the same course, he finished in a first-place tie but then lost medalist honors on the fourth playoff hole.
