Days after concluding a 5-12-3 season that included eight one-goal losses, four Whitman women soccer players were recognized by the Northwest Conference coaches for outstanding seasons. Heading the list for Whitman was senior captain Jaclyn Rudd (Seattle, WA), who made the NWC second-team for the third time.
Rudd led the team in goals with five (and was ninth in the conference), two of which were game-winners. The offensive-minded midfielder also had two assists, and was third in the conference in shots, tallying 69 on the season. Said Head Coach Heather Cato, "Jaclyn has been awarded with All-Conference honors three years in a row, which shows you her impact on this conference and her team."
Three more Whits earned an honorable mention from the NWC coaches. First year forward Clara Merlino (Seattle, WA) was the only Whitman forward honored. She was second on the team in goals with four, including the game-winner in a thrilling overtime victory over George Fox on the 23rd of September. Merlino tied Rudd for the team lead in assists with two.
|Emily Davis, Sr.|
Junior midfielder Hallie Swan (Bainbridge Island, WA) also earned a mention. Despite not recording a goal on the season, Swan terrorized teams on defense, preventing many promising attacks before they gained momentum from her midfield position.
Last but certainly not least, junior goalkeeper Emily Davis (Eagle River, AR) earned an honorable mention as well. Davis started 19 of Whitman's 20 games, most among keepers in the conference, and compiled a goals against average of 1.20. Davis also recorded five shutouts on the season.
On the importance of the all-conference honors, Coach Cato claimed, "I believe that these individual awards are a testament to our teams and the great players on this team. We are very proud of every one of these players and each of them are very deserving of these honors."
