Cooper Schumacher, Jr.

Walla Walla, WA- Just four days after completing their season with a win over the conference champions, the Whitman men's soccer team got more good news in the form of the all-NWC selections. A year after earning a place on the all-NWC first-team, Whitman senior forward Leland Matthaeus (Redmond, WA) was honored with a second team selection along with teammates Cooper Schumacher (Seattle, WA) and Junpei Tsuji (Issaquah, WA). It was Schumcher's second consecutive all-NWC selection. The junior defenseman was also named to the second team a year ago. Tsuji, a junior midfielder, is also no stranger to all-NWC honors, as he earned an honorable mention in 2011.

Matthaeus led the team in goals (5), assists (5), and points (15). The aggressive striker also led the conference in shots with 63. Tsuji wasn't far behind Mattheus in the goals column, notching four of his own from the less-offensive midfield position while adding an assist. Schumacher, an accomplished defender, stymied several promising attacks throughout the season, contributing to Whitman's impressive Goals Against Average of 1.07 (3rd in the conference).

In addition to the three second-teamers, two more Whitman defenseman earned an honorable mention from the Northwest Conference coaches: senior Jed Jacobson (Mercer Island, WA) and junior Jack Morgan (Bellingham, WA)
