WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Sophomore Kristin Innes headed home her first collegiate goal midway through the second half to propel Whitman College to a 1-0 season-ending soccer victory over George Fox Saturday afternoon at the Whitman Athletic Fields.

Whitman ended its season with an 11-7-1 record, which includes a 9-6-1 mark and fourth-place finish in the Northwest Conference. George Fox wrapped up its fall campaign with records of 12-8 and 8-8.

The Missionaries tallied the game's only goal after a Corina Gabbert free kick from just outside the 18-yard box bounced off the crossbar. Innes was at the front of the goal mouth to head home the rebound.

Whitman keeper Courtney Porter made two saves to post her eighth shutout of the season, which ties her for the most in the NWC this season.

The Missionaries outshot George Fox 18-6 on the day, which included a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Gabbert led the offense with five shots. Innes and Molly Gordon added three shots apiece. Jenn Doane and Liz Forbes chipped in with two shots each.

Jenny McKinsey had two shots for the Bruins. Keeper Sally Page made three saves to keep George Fox in the game.

Gordon, Doane, Alisa Larson-Xu, Sarah Nostdal and Kristen Mittelsteadt were Whitman seniors who played their final college games.
