IES: Melbourne

 

Through the Institute for the International Education of Students (IES), Whitman students may enroll at the University of Melbourne, a national university of 40,000 in the capital city of Victoria, South Australia. One of Australia's leading universities, Melbourne offers a broad range of courses and is especially strong in the sciences. The university is located in the northern part of this multicultural city well-known for its parks, arts scene, passion for sports, and Victorian charm. Students attending this program typically live with Australian and other international students in residential colleges or apartments near the university.

Natural and Environmental Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences (including Aboriginal Studies)

Eligibility:

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Calendar:

Mid July-late November; mid February-late June

Credits:

16 credits per semester (50 Melbourne points)

Credit Conversion:

12.5 Melbourne points = 4 Whitman credits

Housing:

In residential colleges with Australian or international students, or in apartments arranged by IES

Meals:

Students living in the residential colleges eat at the college's dining hall. Students living in apartments prepare their own meals.

Internships:

History, parliamentary, business, sociology, and public affairs internships are available for students studying related fields.
