SACI: Florence, Italy

The Studio Art Centers International program in Florence, Italy is designed primarily for studio art students who wish to study art in a city known for its world-class museums and Renaissance architecture. This program hosts approximately 180 US students each semester and offers courses in painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, drawing and other disciplines.

Fields of study:

Studio art, art history, Italian literature, Italian language, cinema and creative writing

Eligibility:

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (Whitman requirement); a portfolio is required for students who wish to enroll in studio art courses at the intermediate or higher levels

Semesters Offered:

Fall, Spring, Academic Year

Calendar:

September-December; January-April

Credits:

15-18 credits per semester - Required Course:
Italian Language (3 credits) 
Four elective courses (3 credits each)

Credit Conversion:

1 SACI credit = 1 Whitman credit

Housing:

In apartments with other U.S. students attending the program

Meals:

Participants either cook their meals for themselves or purchase meals at one of Florence's numerous restaurants
