IES: Delhi

 

IES Delhi Program aims to challenge students with a focus on contemporary India in its cultural and historical context.  Students study Hindi language and choose from English-taught courses in the humanities and social sciences taught at the IES Center.  Qualified students may also enroll in an English-taught course with Indian students at Delhi University or Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Fields of study:

Economics, Literature, History, Political Science, and other disciplines

Eligibility:

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; ability to live in a culture very different from one’s own and to adjust to the living conditions of the developing world.

Fall, Spring Academic Year

Calendar:

July – December; January-May

Credits:

15 – 19 credits per semester - Required Courses:
Hindi language course (3 credits)
AN/HS/US 301 Cities of Delhi (4 credits)
English-taught courses at IES Center and/or Partner Universities (3 credits each)

Credit Conversion:

1 IES credit = 1 Whitman credit

Housing:

Homestay, group homestay, or in a rooming house

Meals:

Homestays: Breakfast and one other meal per day
Rooming House: Meals are on your own, but students have access to kitchen facilities.

Internships:

Volunteer opportunities or service learning opportunities at social service organizations.
