WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- After shutting out Whitworth 9-0 Sunday morning, the Whitman College men's tennis team blanked the visiting Pirates for a second time in an afternoon match to clinch the top seed at the upcoming Northwest Conference championship tournament.
Sunday's second 9-0 victory extended Whitman's record to 15-0 in the NWC and 21-4 overall. Whitworth fell to 9-7 in conference and 10-10 on the season.

The two sides played singles first with Whitman taking all six matches in straight sets. Sophomore Chris Bailey won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, junior Nadeem Kassam was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 2, and freshman Adriel Borshansky posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.
The most competitive match in singles came at No. 4, where sophomore Quin Miller edged Henry Williams 6-4, 6-4.
Freshman Conor Holton-Burke won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, and junior David Deming completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6.
In doubles, Borshanksy teamed with junior Jasper Follows for an 8-6 Whitman win over Williams and Colin Zalewski at No. 2. Kassam and sophomore Etienne Moshevich won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Miller and Bailey pitched an 8-0 shutout at No. 3.
Whitman, ranked No. 25 nationally in NCAA Div. III, can complete a third straight undefeated NWC season when it visits arch-rival Pacific Lutheran next Saturday.
Whitworth hosts non-conference matches against Seattle on Saturday and Lewis-Clark State on the following Tuesday.
The NWC championship tournament is set for Friday and Saturday, April 17-18. Whitman is the defending champion.
