Morris Serving as Soccer Recruiting Coordinator

Tim Morris, an academic all-conference athlete during his collegiate playing days, serves as recruiting coordinator for the women's and men's soccer programs at Whitman College.

Morris, who also works as a substitute teacher in the Walla Walla School District, completed his bachelor's degree in education in 2003 at Michigan's Saginaw Valley State University.

Morris then taught elementary school physical education and health in Waterford, Mich., from 2003 through the summer of 2010, when he moved to the Walla Walla area.

While teaching in Michigan, he also served as an assistant baseball coach at two high schools, and he was a pitching and hitting instructor at the Midwest Baseball Academy (Springfield, Mo.) and an instructor at the Varsity Shop Training Center in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

An outfielder and pitcher at Saginaw Valley State, Morris earned academic all-conference honors in 1998. He was part of college teams that won back-to-back league titles and advanced to the NCAA Division II regional finals in 2000.

He graduated from Waterford's Kettering High School, where he played baseball, football and basketball. He was a team captain in both baseball and football, earning all-county honors in both sports. He was a two-year, two-way starter at quarterback and free safety in football.

While in college, Morris was a counselor and then camp director for youth sports camps run by Oakland Yard Athletics in Waterford.

His college years also included the opportunity to briefly appear in 61*,a film directed by Billy Crystal that chronicles the trials and tribulations of Roger Maris during the 1961 Major League baseball season as he broke Babe Ruth's single-season home run record.

The film includes a few seconds of air time for Morris, who was playing the role Minnesota Twins star Bobby Allison as he played catch near a baseball dugout.

Morris is engaged to be married in August, 2011, to Jessica Cox, the assistant women's basketball coach at Whitman.
