Whitman Baseball to Host Veterans Appreciation Day at Borleske

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitman College will host "Veterans Appreciation Day" this Sunday at Borleske Stadium as the Missionary baseball team plays Willamette in the third game of a three-game weekend series.
Walla Walla's AMVETS Jonathan M. Wainwright Post #1111 will provide a three-man color guard for the singing of the national anthem prior to Sunday's game, which gets underway at noon.
Del Klicker, a Navy veteran and member of the Whitman Athletics Hall of Fame, will throw out the game's first ceremonial pitch.
Klicker, a Walla Walla and 1956 Whitman graduate, starred in both baseball and basketball. He was elected to Whitman's Hall of Fame in 2011.
All veterans of U.S. military forces are encouraged to take part in Sunday's ceremonies and stay for the game.
About 25 patients and several staff members from the Jonathan M. Wainwright V.A. Medical Center will be honored as special guests during the game.
The three-game Northwest Conference series gets underway at noon Saturday with a doubleheader.
