Whitman loses in OT against Claremont

Walla Walla, Wash. - The Men's Soccer team fell to 3-2 in an overtime loss against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the road Saturday. Leland Matthaeus provided two second half goals in the Whitman effort.
The Stags got off to an early lead in the 41st minute to go ahead 1-0. Shortly after the break, CMS took a 2-0 lead as Jake Bishop scored on an assist from David Taylor in the 49th.
The Missionaries got things going in the 60th minute when Matthaeus scored after receicing a pass from Logan Grime. The scoreline did not last long as ten minutes later Matthaeus put home his second goal of the match. He received a pass from freshman Marcos Medina to tie the game at 2-2.
The game moved into overtime after remaining dead locked the final 20 minutes of the second half. A Whitman own goal ended up deciding the outcome 3-2 in the 103rd minute, ending the Missionaries' hope of come from behind victory.
Whitman falls to 1-1 on the year after a win yesterday against #9 Redlands. The men take on Pomona-Pitzer tomorrow to rap up their California pre-season trip.
