OP Speaker & Events Intern

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The OP Speaker & Events intern will work with the Assistant Director to plan, schedule, coordinate, and be present for all OP Speakers and Events.  The Purpose of this position is to provide excellent but accessible programming for Whitman students on campus.  Our program features athletes, films, alumni, trainings, and other presentations unique to the outdoors.  The position will last for the entire semester, with possibility of re-hire for future semesters for leaders in good standing. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AS OP SPEAKER & EVENTS INTERN 

Duties will include:

  • Handle all details for shows, films, events & speakers (such as Banff film festival)
  • Meet with Assistant Director at regular intervals
  • Advertise for the Speakers & Events through email,posters/flyers, table in Reid Campus Center (if appropriate), word of mouth
  • Compile data on participant numbers
  • Attend required trainings and meetings
  • Track budgets for this program

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1.     Excellent organizational skills.
2.     Ability to work independently and figure out what needs to be done
3.     Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with others, Assistant Director and participants.
4.     Ability to organize and prioritize work and school schedules


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Full-time student preferred
  2. Must have and maintain good academic standing
  3. Enthusiasm
  4. An ability to motivate others to want to go to events and speakers
  5. An ability to establish a rapport with students, faculty, alumni, and the public
  6. An ability to project a positive and professional image
  7. Creativity
  8. An ability to function on the job with limited supervision
  9. Willingness to work extra hours beyond the regular schedule where needed
  10. An ability to project, promote, and maintain a helpful customer service outlook
  11. A familiarity with the Outdoor Rental Shop and Outdoor Program

Anticipated SCHEDULE

-Beginning of semester: very busy time
-Mid-semester:  work slows down, focus recording data
-End of semester:  few speakers, minor paperwork wrap-up, some training opportunities, prepare schedule for next semester.
