Walla Walla, Wash. – Sophomore guard Heather Johns has been named the Northwest Conference Female Student-Athlete of the Week. In games against the University of Puget Sound and Corban University last week, Johns scored 20 and 16 points, respectively, in leading the Lady Missionaries to a key conference win and a victory in the final game of the Kim Evanger Raney Classic.

The point-guard from West Richland (Southridge H.S.) also dished out 11 assists in the two games – 8 in the victory over Corban – and swiped 5 steals. The 5-foot-7 Johns also helped out on the boards, grabbing 5 rebounds against UPS and 4 in the Corban game.
In both contests, Johns consistently broke down the opposing defenses, creating her own shots or open looks for her teammates. Her thievery on the defensive end also set up many fast break opportunities.
In just her first season with the Missionaries, Johns has been a major contributor, leading the team in assists per game at 3.4 and steals at 1.7. She also is second in scoring average (11.5) and minutes (27).
Johns transferred from St. Martins after her freshman season, and did not play a year of collegiate hoops prior to the 2012 -13 campaign.
