The Pioneer is the longest-running student organization on campus. We publish a weekly newspaper every Thursday, as well as a full-color magazine several times per semester. Approximately 80 students work for The Pioneer as reporters, columnists, photographers, illustrators, production associates, advertising associates, editors and managers.

We are committed to providing timely, high-quality news coverage and serving as a forum for thoughtful discussion of issues impacting the Whitman community. We also function as a resource for students interested in learning about all aspects of journalism.

Our print edition placed third in the Best of Show awards at the Associate Collegiate Press' spring 2012 college journalism conference, and was the only school in the top ten without a journalism or communications department. Our website was a 2012 finalist for the ACP Pacemaker award. The site has also won the Associate Collegiate Press Best of Show award twice and placed second at the spring 2012 convention.
