As a team, Whitman's top four golfers combined for a 351 on Sunday -- six shots better than Saturday's opening round -- to finish in a tie with Puget Sound for fourth place. Both schools had 708 tournament totals for the two rounds.
George Fox, first in the team scoring with a 651 total, was followed by Whitworth (663) and Linfield (681). Filling out the lower half of the field were Pacific (741), Pacific Lutheran (772), Willamette (818) and Lewis & Clark (855).

The Fall Classic counts for 25 percent of the scoring that determines the NWC team title. The Spring Classic, early next April, also counts for 25 percent. The NWC Championship tournament, set for late next April, counts for the final 50 percent.
"We lowered our team score on Sunday and we caught Puget Sound for fourth place, so it was another step in the right direction for us," Whitman golf coach Skip Molitor said. "We're a young team, and we're looking for more improvement next spring."

Head finished the tournament with a 36-hole score of 166, one stroke back of two players who tied for third. Whitworth's Emily Guthrie was first overall with a 157 total while Jill Westendorf, playing for George Fox, was the runner-up at 160.
"Tate played very well in the closing round," Molitor said. "She had too many three-putts, which means her ball striking was probably as good as anyone in the tournament."
Caitlin Holland, another of Whitman's first-year players, shot 87 on Sunday to finish at 171, tied for 11th place. Sydney Conway, also a first-yar player, followed a 93 on Saturday with a 91 on Sunday and a 184 total.
Two Whitman players, senior Kelsi Evans and junior Sydney Saito, carded Sunday scores of 92, the number used to complete Whitman's team score for the closing round. Evans finished with a tournament total of 188, seven strokes in front of Saito.
Sophomore Allison Lodine shot 95 and 96 in her two rounds for a 191 total.
