A public lecture by Paul Pickowicz, professor of history and Chinese studies at the University of California, San Diego.

Description: Shanghai was a global city in the 1920s. Almost all young people wanted a "modern marriage," but no one really knew how to define the modern marriage. This lecture discusses silent films made in Shanghai in the 1920s that deal with the issue of the modern marriage.
