|Catelyn Webber, Jr.|
Playing Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield, WA Saturday, the
Whitman College Women's golf team beat Pacific Lutheran University,
posting a team total of 322 vs the Lutes team score of 357. The dual
match served as a final preparation for the Missionaries as they
prepare for the season ending Northwest Conference Fall Classic Oct 27
& 28 at Tri Mountain.
Catelyn Webber (Bellevue, WA) led the Missionaries, shooting a 78 to post the low round of the day. Webber was supported by teammates Katie Zajicek (Corvallis, OR) Kelly Sweeney (Enumclaw, WA) and Caitlin Holland (Edgewood, WA) who posted scores of 80, 81, and 83, respectively. Tate Head's 86 was not included in the team total that takes the best four of five scores. PLU was led by Emily Cook's 85, with Kristina Norlin's 88, Paige Henry 91's, and Julie Heffernan's 93 rounding out the team scoring. Also playing for the Lutes were Ceirra Pettit, who shot 104, and Stephanie Miller, who shot 130.
Playing Tri Mountain for the first time, both Webber and Zajicek
managed their way around the challenging track without shooting
anything over a bogey. Webber's round was a balanced three over par
effort on both nines, which included a birdie 4 on the par 5 13th
hole. Zajicek sprinkled in three birdies, including two dueces on par
3s, in a round with a total of 29 putts. Kelly Sweeney bounced back
well from a triple bogey on the par 4 8th hole to keep her round at
a solid nine over par. Caitlin Holland's continued improvement was
marked by a round where she hit 12 fairways and 11 greens on her way
to her 83.
Said Head Coach Skip Molitor, "Saturday proved to be outstanding preparation for the Fall Classic coming up in two weeks. The course features a lot of water hazards and our team will be well served by playing a round in competition prior to the Classic. Our players continue to play very consistently, with our counting scores ranging from 78-83." The NWC Fall Classic at month's end is the only fall event that counts
toward the league standings for the golf standings.
