CLIMBING CENTER DESK STAFF:
The Climbing Center desk staff is in charge of managing the climbing center during open hours; at least one desk staff member must be present at all times while the wall is open. Wall staff are primarily responsible for safety, welcoming participants to the wall, giving new user orientations and performing routine tasks.
Principle Responsibilities:
- Manage safety at the climbing wall and make sure that all climbers have checked in.
- Welcome new and existing users to the wall with a friendly attitude
- Organize the desk and paperwork to keep the wall functioning
- Enter and update info in Rock Gym Pro to keep Climbing Center records up to date.
- New users: verify that they are a student, staff, faculty, alumni or family. Then give appropriate paperwork, show video, give safety talk and input new user into Rock Gym Pro.
- Enforce wall rules at all times.
- Perform necessary tasks around the wall: inspect gear, make & laminate signs, tighten/remove holds, vacuum, special projects, etc.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Current first aid, CPR, AED and top-rope climb and belay (lead climb and belay preferred)
- Friendly, enthusiastic, and welcoming to all Climbing Center users
- Organization skills and moderately tech savvy
- Ability to maintain a safe environment at the Climbing Center.
Meeting/Training Requirements
- All staff training at the start of each semester.
- Monthly meetings for all climbing staff.
Other General Qualifications
- Have and maintain good academic standing
- Current CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications
- Top Rope Climb and Belay certification at the Climbing Center
- Ability to work with others where safety is of utmost concern
- Able to cope with a diversified responsibility
- Project a positive and professional image
- Function on the job with limited supervision
- Willingness to commit to the position for the semester
- Will find an authorized substitute for a shift if they cannot work. Failure to work a shift or find a replacement will result in loss of pro-purchase privileges and could result in loss of job.
- Preferred familiarity with the Outdoor Program and Climbing Center
