Women Resume Winning, Squish Geoducks

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- After letting a game slip away last night, the Whitman College women jumped back on the winning track with a 68-46 victory over Evergreen State Saturday night in Olympia, Wash.
Whitman improved to 3-1 on the season while Evergreen State, an NAIA school, dipped to 1-4.
The Missionaries trailed 34-31 at halftime but outscored the Geoducks 37-12 over the final 20 minutes.
Whitman made 13 of 21 shots from the floor (61.9 percent) in the second half while holding Evergreen to a 17.2 percent (5-29) shooting performance after the break.
Rebecca Sexton made seven of 12 shots and led Whitman in scoring with 15 points. Jenele Peterson made all six of her free throws and finished with 14 points.
The Missionaries hit the boards en masse to outrebound Evergreen 40-37. Kelly Peterson had a team-high six rebounds while four of her teammates -- Tiffani Brewer, Meghan White, Mary Madden and Sarah Anderegg -- grabbed four rebounds each.
Eleven of the 13 Whitman players who entered the game made it into the scoring column.

Whitman heads to western Oregon next weekend to play its first Northwest Conference games of the season.
The Missionaries battle Linfield at 6 p.m. Friday in McMinnville and face Lewis & Clark at 4 p.m. Saturday in Portland.
