WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- With first-year players Tate Head and Caitlin Holland posting the top two individual scores, the Whitman College women were in second place in the team scoring after Sunday's opening round of the Northwest Conference Northern Colleges Golf Tournament at the Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash.
Head took the first-day lead with a 7-over par 80. Holland was two strokes back in second place with an 82.
Junior Sydney Saito shot 91 and Sydney Conway, a third first-year Missionary, added a 94 to complete Whitman's 347 team score. That was four strokes back of first-place Whitworth.
Puget Sound was in third place at 358 with Pacific Lutheran in fourth at 384.
Sophomore Allison Lodine, who shot 101, and senior Kelsi Evans, who carded a 108, also played for Whitman.
The tournament concludes Monday with a second round of 18 holes.
