Whit Women Complete SCIAC Road Sweep

Los Angeles, Calif. - Senior forward Mary Madden grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 10 points to lead the Whitman Women’s Basketball team to a 64-50 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Junior forward Sarah Anderegg had another big night to lead all scorers with 16 points on 7-14 shooting while snaring 6 rebounds.

Whitman jumped on the home team early and pulled to a 36-21 lead at the half shooting 45 percent from the field while holding the Ahtenas to 30 percent shooting. The second half the Athenas went 12 for 12 from the freethrow line but the Missionaries kept them at a distance pulling out and maintaining a 20 point lead for most of the second half. Whitman held the host team to 27 percent shooting for the game and dominated the boards 51-22. In addition to Madden and Anderegg’s efforts on the boards, junior forward Meghan White pulled down 11 rebounds and scored 8 points. Whitman also cleaned up their offensive execution only turning over the basketball 12 times while dishing out 15 assists (4 each for sophomore guard Heather Johns and White) after 25 turnovers at LaVerne the night before. Junior guard Aria Krumwiede led the Athenas with 12 points and was the only CMS player in double figures.

With the victory at LaVerne University on Friday night, Whitman is now 2-0 on the season completing another success sweep of their SCIAC West Region opponents. During Coach Michelle Ferenz’s tenure, Whitman has never lost to a SCIAC opponent.

Whitman now looks forward to their home opener against Northwest University this coming Saturday. November 24 at 4 pm on George Ball Court.
