WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Whitman College men's tennis team resumed its domination of the Northwest Conference with a 9-0 victory over Pacific on Saturday in cold, damp conditions in Forest Grove, Ore.
Whitman, now 8-0 in NWC and 10-6 on the season, got started with a sweep in doubles and didn't look back in singles, taking all six of those matches in straight sets.
Whitman, ranked No. 22 in the latest NCAA Division III national rankings, has won its last 74 consecutive NWC regular season matches dating back to the end of the 2006 spring season.
Saturday's loss dropped Pacific is 4-4 in conference and 5-7 overall.
Whitman altered its line-up a bit in doubles. Senior Etienne Moshevich and sophomore Jeff Tolman maintained their partnership but moved up a notch to play in the No. 1 slot, where rolled past Spencer Hing and Troy Zuroske 8-3.
Junior Conor Holton-Burke and senior Quin Miller formed a new combo at No. 2, where they downed Michael Okada and Scott Kawamura 8-4.
Sophomore Matt Tesmond and freshman Andrew La Cava, a second new twosome, were 8-3 winners over Alen Suklje and Patrick Kinghorn at No. 3 doubles.
The most competitive match in singles came at No. 1, where Holton-Burke downed Zuroske 6-4, 6-3.
Moshevich was almost perfect at No. 2, beating Hing 6-1, 6-0, and La Cava got past Okada 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Tolman got the win at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kawamura.
Adriel Borshansky, a junior, knocked off Suklje 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and sophomore Sam Sadeghi completed the sweep at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Derek Cooley.
Whitman returns home to host Whitworth for a tennis doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Sunday.
