Tennis Men Add Two to Mix, Blank Bruins

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Mixing a few more players into its singles line-up for its second match of the day, the Whitman College men's tennis team rolled over George Fox 9-0 Sunday afternoon in Newberg, Ore.

Whitman, now 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in the NWC, moved junior Adriel Borshanksy into the No. 5 slot and had freshman Steven Roston play at No. 6.

Both players notched easy wins. Borshansky beat Josiah Jackson 6-1, 6-1 while Roston defeated Nolan Staples 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Chris Bailey and sophomore Sam Sadeghi moved up a notch from their morning slots and picked off straight set wins. Bailey downed Preston Mann 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Sadeghi got past Justin McClain 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.

Junior Conor Holton-Burke returned to the No. 1 singles slot, edging Scott Barnett 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).
Freshman Andrew La Cava also posted his second victory of the day at No. 2 singles, beating Peter Brown 6-3, 6-1.
Whitman stayed with the same line-up for its second sweep of the day in doubles.

Holton-Burke and La Cava were 8-4 winners at No. 1 doubles, knocking off Barnett and Mann.
At No. 2 doubles, senior Etienne Moshevich and sophomore Jeff Tolman cruised to an 8-2 victory over Brown and Jackson.
Senior Quin Miller and sophomore Matt Tesmond polished off the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Andy Tweet and McClain in the No. 3 match.
The loss dropped George Fox to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the NWC.
Whitman, ranked No. 19 nationally to start the NCAA Division III season, stays in western Oregon on Monday for a 2 p.m. match against Willamette in Salem, Ore.
