IES: Granada

 

The IES Abroad Granada program provides students with exposure to Granada’s Islamic heritage in a Southern European setting, and a cross of cultures that is unique within the Hispanic world.  Advanced track students with sufficient Spanish skills have the option of direct enrollment at the University of Granada.

Fields of study:

Art History, Economics, History, Literature, and other disciplines including Islamic and Andalusian studies

Eligibility:

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Intermediate Track: 2 semesters of college-level Spanish
Advanced Track: 4 semesters of college-level Spanish

Semesters Offered:

Fall, Spring, Academic Year

Calendar:

September – December, January – May (mid-June departure for some direct enrollment students)

Credits:

Minimum of 15 – 19 credits per semester – Intermediate Track:
IES Center Spanish courses (6 credits)
IES Center Area Studies Courses – in English (9-12 credits)

Minimum of 15 – 19 credits per semester – Advanced Track:
IES Abroad Spanish courses (6 credits)
Area Studies Courses at Center and/or the University (9-12 credits)

Credit Conversion:

1 IES credit = 1 Whitman credit

Housing:

Students live in homestays, or with Spanish students in student residence, or in Colegio Mayor (by special application)

Meals:

Homestays – 14 meals per week
Residence Hall – 15 meals per week
Colegio Mayor – 20 meals per week

Internships:

A wide range of internships are available in cultural management, social services, international relations, applied economics, tourism, education and health sciences
