IES Paris French Studies

 

The IES French Studies Program in Paris, France, provides students with an opportunity to live in this rich cultural capital and study exclusively in French with French professors either at the IES Paris Center or at one of several local universities, such as the Sorbonne-Paris IV or Institut Catholique. A special feature of this program is the opportunity to learn about France through an internship in the workplace. In addition to their regular courses, students may enroll in an internship-based course in education, a non-governmental organization, business, or the arts.

Fields of study:

Art history, film, Francophone studies, history, literature, theater, politics and sociology as well as other fields

Eligibility:

Four semesters of college-level French or the equivalent; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Semesters Offered:

Fall, Spring, Academic Year, Summer

Calendar:

September-December; January-May

Credits:

Minimum of 15 credits per semester - Required Courses
Advanced French Language (4 credits)
Four electives at IES Center and/or local University (3 credits each)

Credit Conversion:

1 IES credit = 1 Whitman credit

Housing:

In French homes with local hosts or in a private apartment building

Meals:

Students in homestays take breakfast daily and three dinners per week with the family; they purchase or prepare the remaining meals themselves.  Students in the apartments purchase or prepare their meals themselves.

Internships:

Available in the arts and museums, business and marketing, education, and non-governmental organizations.
