Women Blank Boxers for Second Time

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Tuning up for a Saturday showdown at Linfield, the Whitman College women's team washed over Pacific University 9-0 Friday evening in a match that was moved to indoor courts in Vancouver, Wash., because of inclement weather.

Blanking the Boxers for the second time this spring, Whitman improved to 10-3 in the Northwest Conference and 12-7 on the season.

The Missionaries can slip past Linfield into second place by beating the Wildcats on Saturday in McMinnville, Ore. That match begins at 11 a.m. 

Linfield, now 10-2 in the NWC, pulled a stunner Friday with a 5-4 victory over previously undefeated Whitworth.

Whitman, playing Friday at Vancouver's Club Green Meadows Tennis & Athletic Center, dominated Pacific from start to finish.

Elise Otto and Alyssa Roberg got the snowball rolling with an 8-0 victory over Cat Goya and Megan Yoshimoto at No. 1 doubles.

K. Kunkel-Patterson

Emily Rolston and Kate Kunkel-Patterson scored a quick 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, and it was seniors Hadley DeBree and Divneet Kaur posting an 8-5 win at No. 3.

The most competitive match in singles came in the No. 1 slot, where Roberg downed Goya 7-5, 6-2.

At the other end of the spectrum, Otto at No. 2 and Kunkel-Patterson at No. 6 lost just one game apiece in cruising to victories. 

DeBree was almost as dominate at No. 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Kaur at No. 4 and Rolston at No. 5 completed the sweep with matching 6-3, 6-3 victories over their opponents.
