Walla Walla, WA (January 8, 2013) – Whitman point-guard, Josh Duckworth, has been named the Northwest Conference Male Student Athlete of the Week for his performance over three games, from December 29 thru January 5.

Josh Duckworth, Jr.

The junior from Los Angeles, California had a career high against Lewis & Clark on the road last Friday, tallying 34 points as he scored 15 of Whitman’s last 17 points in a span of 2 minutes 27 seconds. Although the effort could not prevent an 88 – 84 loss, Duckworth’s performance was memorable. He also grabbed 6 boards. The following night, again, on the road, Duckworth poured in 13 in the Missionaries 76 – 65 win over Pacific. On December 29, Duckworth tallied 14 against Hamline University.

Over the three game stretch, the 6 – 2 guard averaged just over 20 points and elevated himself to the number 12 ranked scorer in the NWC.

“Duck” as his teammates and coaching staff refer to him, is the third Whitman basketball player to earn the NWC Student Athlete of the Week honor this season. Teammate Ben Eisenhardt (Jr, Bainbridge Island, WA)  earned the award two weeks ago and Lady Missionaries’ guard Heather Johns (So, W. Richland, WA) was chosen in early December.

The Men’s team is in action tonight against #5 Whitworth – 8 pm tip-off, with the #19 ranked Lady Missionaries facing Whitworth at 6 pm.
