WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Whitman College senior Amy Hasson, who leads the Northwest Conference in scoring, is this week's Student Athlete of the Week (offense) for women's soccer.
Hasson was honored after scoring three goals and adding an assist while playing three NWC games in five days.
After starting her week with an assist against Whitworth, Hasson booted Whitman's only goal in a 1-1 tie at Puget Sound before knocking home the first and last goals in a 3-0 romp past Pacific Lutheran.
With 11 goals and two assists on the season, Hasson tops the NWC in goals and total points. She also leads the conference in total shots (66) and shots on goal (35).
"Amy started her scoring during our summer trip to England and it hasn't stopped since then," Whitman coach Heather Cato says.
"Amy is the heartbeat of this team and has worked so hard this season. Amy earned this recognition and she deserves it; I'm so proud of her and for her."
Poised for a move up the NWC standings, Whitman plays four of its last five games at home.
A four-game, two-weekend homestand starts with the Missionaries hosting Pacific at noon Saturday. Whitman beat the Boxers 1-0 earlier this season Forest Grove, Ore.
Whitman hosts George Fox at noon Sunday to wrap up the weekend. The Missionaries dropped a discouraging 2-1 decision to the Bruins last month in Newberg, Ore., despite working their way to a 17-8 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Both weekend games will be played at the Whitman Athletic Fields.
