WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Whitman College senior Noel Sollom-Brotherton has been named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for men's swimming.

Sollom-Brotherton won both individual backstroke events in last Saturday's dual meet at Whitworth University, setting a new school record at the 200-yard distance.

In addition to winning the 100-yard backstroke in a 55.74, Sollom-Brotherton broke a 14-year-old Whitman record in winning the 200-yard backstroke in 1:57.63. Scott Daukas set the previous mark (1:57.90) in 1995.

Sollom-Brotherton nearly enjoyed a third victory in Saturday's meet. He swam the opening leg on Whitman’s 400-yard medley relay team, which placed second in 3:41.67, finishing less than tenth of a second behind its Whitworth counterpart.

The Whitman men's and women's swim teams conclude the regular season this weekend with a pair of dual meets. They travel to Tacoma, Wash., to face Puget Sound at 6 p.m. Friday. The Missionaries then host College of Idaho in a non-conference meet at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Paul Harvey Pool.
