Artis, a 6-foot guard, came to Whitman last season after playing his first two seasons at Olympic College (Bremerton, Wash.).

A graduate of Tacoma's Foss High School, Artis made an immediate impact for Whitman, averaging 12.6 points and 4.1 rebounds as a junior.

His junior campaign included a 32-point night against Whitworth in which he hit five of seven shots from the 3-point line and grabbed six rebounds. Earlier that season, he powered Whitman past Pacific by making 10 of 12 shots from the floor, including seven of eight 3-point attempts, en route to 29 points.

Artis has continued to play a pivotal role this winter, helping a revitalized Missionary team roll to its best season in more than two decades.

With four games left in the regular season, Whitman is 8-4, tied for second in NWC and within reach of its first conference playoff berth since the 1994-95 season.

Artis kicked off his senior season with a 23-point night (plus seven rebounds and seven assists) against Multnomah Bible College. He combined 12 points with six rebounds while matching his career-high in steals with five against Menlo.

Artis has also done his part as senior to help the Missionaries outrebound their opponents by nearly five boards a night. He worked his way to eight rebounds -- one off his Whitman high -- in a game at Linfield.

Artis has also helped Whitman lead the NWC in steals in each of the past two seasons. In the individual statistics, Artis was sixth in steals last season and again ranks in the Top 10 this year.

Counting his two seasons at Olympic College, Artis heads to this weekend's games with career numbers that include 1,232 points, 409 rebounds, 164 steals, 124 assists, and 95 3-point baskets.
