Evans Paces Women at NWC Tourney

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- With Kelsi Evans and Sydney Saito leading the way, the Whitman College women's golf team finds itself in a three-way battle for sixth place after Saturday's opening round of the Northwest Conference Championships at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Wash.

Evans, a junior, shot 104, two strokes better than Saito, her sophomore teammate. Whitman's four-player team score was 449, three shots in back of both Pacific Lutheran and Willamette. 

Two first-year players, Jennifer Keyes and Allison Lodine, rounded out Whitman's team score with rounds of 116 and 123, respectively. 

Puget Sound is first in the team scoring with a 355 total. Linfield is 10 shots back in second place. Whitworth, in third with a 373 total, is followed by George Fox (379) and Pacific (388). With just two golfers at the tournament, Lewis & Clark is unable to post a team score.

Puget Sound's Sarah Bickler leads the individual scoring after shooting 82. Linfield's Brynn Hurdus and Willamette's Whitney Ueno are tied for second at 84.

The tournament concludes Sunday with a second round of 18 holes.
