Jackie Wood, pianist, joined the Whitman faculty in 1987, where she is Lecturer in Music. She is an active soloist, chamber musician, teacher and adjudicator, and has performed extensively as a duo-pianist. Her duo-piano performance partners include Dr. Lee D. Thompson, Dr.Tania Cronin, Manabu Takasawa, and Debra Richter.

Ms. Wood is a versatile musician with experience in opera, American Theater, dance, and Big Band music. She was Music Director of the Columbine Players (a Whitman College summer stock theater company based in Walla Walla and Joseph, Oregon) from 1995-2000, and has been pianist for Walla Walla Choral Society and Walla Walla Mastersingers. She has served as pianist since 1990 for the Summer Dance Lab, an intensive pre-professional training school for dancers. Ms. Wood is currently organist/pianist for the First Congregational Church of Walla Walla.

In addition to performing and adjudicating regionally, Ms. Wood has performed in Carnegie Hall, New York City (1990), as accompanist for the Walla Walla Choral Society (Robert Bode, conductor), and in Japan (2000) as a soloist and collaborative artist with soprano Diane Chamberlain. Her interest in 20th and 21st century music has inspired Ms. Wood to create a number of concerts featuring new music. These concerts have presented the music of composers such as Takemitsu, Rzewski, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe. She has collaborated with violinist Sarah Moseley in presenting recitals of Slavic music such as that of Arvo Part, Shostakovich, and Grazyna Bacewicz.

Ms. Wood’s teachers include Jose Rambaldi, Leonard Richter, Debra Richter, Silvia Kind, and Gerald Berthalimue. She earned her B.A. in history from Whitman College and her M.A. in Music, Piano Performance, from Washington State University.
