Swimmers Poised for NCAA Championships Performance

SHENANDOAH, Tex. -- Three Whitman swimmers will compete in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships this Wednesday through Saturday at Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas: Claire Collins, Galen Sollom-Brotherton and Karl Mering.

Sollom-Brotherton and Mering are making a return trip to the national championships after qualifying for the meet last season. This is the first appearance for Collins, a junior from Burlingame, California, who qualified in the 100 breaststroke, and will also swim in the 200 breast and the 200 IM.

Mering, the Northwest Conference's Outstanding Male Swimmer, qualified for the 100 butterfly with the 3rd fastest time this season (48.59). The sophomore from Boise, Idaho will also compete in the 200 fly and the 100 free. Sollom-Brotherton, a junior from Dublin, California, qualified with B cut times for two events: the 1650 freestyle and the 500 free. His third race will be the 200 free.

The swimmers will be led by NWC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, Jenn Blomme, in her 12th season as Whitman head coach.

The preliminaries for each day will begin at 10 am Central Time with the finals starting at 6 pm Central. The NCAA website will provide live video at http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2013/03/20. Live results will also be available on the NCAA site, although at this time the service is not available.
