Roberg Tabbed NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

Walla Walla, Wash. – Senior Whitman netter Alyssa Roberg ’13 has been named the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week after playing a key role in the Missionaries three wins at the Winter Classic this past weekend, held at the Bratton Tennis Center.

Roberg, who hails from Scotts Valley, CA, partnered with Courtney Lawless to win all three of their doubles matches against UC Santa Cruz, Linfield and Willamette, in addition to prevailing in singles in the first two matches of the event, recording a perfect, 5 – 0 record for the week.

Roberg’s biggest win came against the Banana Slugs. With the Missionaries dropping matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, Roberg kept Whitman even with Santa Cruz by winning at the No. 2 slot, 6 – 1, 6 – 2, enabling the Whits to edge the Slugs 5 – 4.

In her other singles win, Roberg came storming back after losing the first set to Linfield’s Caroline Brigham  to take the match 2 – 6,  6 – 2, 6 – 0.

The Missionaries are, now, 2 – 0 in conference and 3 – 1 on the season. They host Lewis & Clark this Saturday, February 16, at 2 pm.
