Men's Netter Steven Roston Named Student-Athlete of the Week
WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- After a weekend in which the Whitman Men's tennis team played three road matches in 24 hours, gaining an impressive sweep, versatile netter Steven Roston (Jr., San Carlos, CA) was named the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.

Steven Roston, Jr.
The 5 - 8 lefty won all three of his singles matches as he played up and down the line-up, taking the court at No. 1, 3 and 4. Roston was also victorious in the two doubles matches he played, teaming with Alex Noyes (Fr., Covington, WA) at No. 2 against Linfield (8-2) and Colton Malesovas (So., Austin, TX) at No. 3 versus George Fox (8-1).
Roston's biggest contribution to the Whits successful road sweep came in Friday's first match against the Wildcats where he was pressed into duty at the top of the singles line-up. After coming out of the blocks slowly against Zach Lyons, down 0-3 in the first set, Roston fought back to take the first set 7-5. After coming out on the short end of a hard-fought second set 5 - 7, the junior cruised in the tie breaker 10-4.
On Saturday Roston prevailed in straight sets in both of his matches, surrendering a total of only 7 games.
The three victories at Linfield, Lewis & Clark and George Fox boosted the No. 13 ranked Missionaries to 4 - 1 on the season and 4 - 0 in conference, good for sole possession of first place.
Roston is the second Whitman tennis player to garner the conference Student-Athlete of the week in the spring team season. Senior netter Alyssa Roberg (Sr., Scotts Valley, CA) received the honor for her 5 - 0 weekend earlier this month.
