Lady Netters Win Second Straight with Victory Over Linfield

Walla Walla, Wash. – The Lady Missionaries defeated Linfield 8 – 1 at the Whitman Winter Classic, earlier today, to improve their early season record to 2 – 1, winning their second-straight match after edging UC Santa Cruz on Thursday 5 – 4.

The Whits got a strong performance in doubles as all three teams won.  Courtney Lawless (So., Austin, TX) and Alyssa Roberg (Sr., Scotts Valley, CA) won at No. 1, defeating Caroline Brigham and Lexi Thomas 8 – 0. At No. 2, Jenna Dobrin (Fr., Camarillo, CA) and Morgan Lawless (So., Austin, TX) bested Kelly Watanabe and Kiana Nip 8 – 2, and Katrina Allick (Fr., San Francisco, CA) and Kate Rubinstien (Fr., Portland, OR) downed Emily Erbin and Gretchen Jernstedt 8 – 3.

In the ensuing singles, Whitman took all the matches except at No. 5 where Jernstedt outdueled Maddy Webster (So., Long Beach, CA) 6 – 3, 3 – 6 (14 – 12).

C. Lawless was victorious over Thomas at number one, 6 – 1, 6 – 1. Roberg bested Brigham in three sets at number two, 2 - 6, 6 - 2, 6 - 0. At No. 3, M. Lawless defeated Nip 6 - 3, 6 - 0.

Dobrin rolled at No. 4, winning 6 – 0, 6 – 1 over Watanabe, and Kate Kunkel-Patterson (Sr., Yakima, WA) won in straight sets, 6 – 1, 6 – 2 over Erbin at No. 6.

Whitman plays its last match in the Winter Classic, which has featured several of the top teams in the West Region, when it faces Willamette Sunday at 9 am, outside courts if the weather permits.
