In the 2012 season the Whitman Men’s program reached new heights, as it beat Division III powerhouse Whitworth at three events, including a dual meet on January 26 at Harvey Pool where the Men ended the Pirates’ 90 dual meet winning streak.

At the conference meet the Men tallied 627.5 points and had two swimmers, Galen Sollom-Brotherton ’14 and Karl Mering ’15, each win three individual titles – Mering setting a new conference and meet record in the 100 butterfly. In all, twenty school records fell between the Men’s and Women’s teams.

Blomme who has been at the helm of both the Men’s and Women’s squad since 2000, has received Coach of the Year honors six times, now, being recognized for her work with the Women’s team in ’04,’05, and ’11, making it four consecutive years she has won Coach of the Year between the Men’s and Women’s programs.

Specializing in the breaststroke, Blomme was a varsity swimmer at Grinnell (Iowa) College, where she earned her undergraduate degree in 1996, majoring in Spanish. Grinnell, which has a traditionally strong NCAA Div. III swim program, captured its conference title in two of her four seasons there.
