What is CwTI?

The Communicating with Technology Initiative (CwTI) focuses on technology issues that impact communication and instructional skills by providing mentoring, training workshops, and development support for faculty. Many faculty have already participated in the past events.

Introducing CwTI 2010: Beyond Highlighters and Red Pens

Grading papers, marking up drafts of thesis (or dissertations), collaborating on a monograph with a colleague at another institution, writing a grant proposal with team members... as faculty you've done most if not all of these activities. But did you know that in this digital era, many software and online tools have emerged to enhance and even improve these processes?

Paralleling these developments in digital mark up and collaboration, the variety of media by which students and faculty can create content and ideas has also flourished. Traditionally this creative process was strongly in the domain of the written word, but now with the ubiquitous availability of tools to create images, video, and audio, a whole world of possibilities for the exchange of ideas has opened up. Since it has, how does one "mark up" a student video assignment? What tools does one use to evaluate and/or collaborate on a radio-style audio project?

In Beyond Highlighters and Red Pens, participants will explore the many ways by which digital grading, assessment and collaboration can occur, from very simple techniques in word processing, to more elaborate methods for working with multimedia. Covered topics will include:

Prior experience with software/web services is helpful, but not required.
