May 4: ******poet Linda Bierds (final event)****

Bierds, who spent her early years in Alaska, now lives on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She is a recipient of most of the major American poetry recognitions. Among her many awards are a National Endowment for the Arts grant, Pushcart Prizes, fellowships from the Ingram Merrill, John Simon Guggenheim, and Wolfers-O'Neill Foundations, and an ALA Notable Book citation. In addition to seven books, her work has appeared in THE ATLANTIC MONTHLY, FIELD, THE JOURNAL, THE KENYON REVIEW, THE MASSACHUSETTS REVIEW, THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE NEW YORKER, PARNASSUS, and THE THREEPENNY REVIEW. Bierds has taught poetry in schools under the auspices of the Washington State Arts Commission and worked as a decent at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo, among other things. Currently, she is a professor at the University of Washington. Harold Brodkey has called Bierds "A poet of magnitude."
