March 30: poets Linda Andrews & Primus St. John

Linda Andrews, a Walla Walla resident, has received numerous citations for poetry including the Academy of American Poets Prize, the Richard Blessing Award from the University of Washington, and a fellowship from Wyoming's Ucross Foundation. Most recently, her book, ESCAPE of THE BIRD WOMEN, received a 1999 Govenor's Writers Award. As a professional health care writer, she has published in the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE, JOURNAL of HEALTH CARE RESOURCES, and AMERICAN PHARMACY. Her poems have appeared in many journals including POETRY NOTRHWEST, NIMROD, SEATTLE REVIEW, CALYX, WILLOW SPRINGS, MILKWEED, PRAIRIE WINDS, CUTBANK, and MIDWEST QUARTERLY. Wrote poet Linda Bierds of Andrews' work, "ESCAPE of THE BIRD WOMEN is a fascinating book -- a rich and fully-realized collection." And Ron Jolliffe, Theologian, has said, "Linda Andrews invites us to be bodies in a colorful, material world. She knows how to talk about us."
