September 30: novelist/story writer Kevin Canty

Winner of the Transatlantic Review Award, and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award among others, Kevin Canty teaches at the University of Montana. In addition to a couple of books of stories and two novels, he has published in ESQUIRE, THE NEW YORKER, DETAILS, STORY, VOGUE, and the NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE. NINE BELOW ZERO, his new novel, has received wide acclaim. Harry Crews says, "Kevin Canty is a storm of talent... His imagination is a dark wood with wildlife in it." Joy Williams said of A STRANGER IN THIS WORLD, "Cool, clean, and devastating all-American realism." National Public Radio said of his earlier work, "Canty is a traditional realist and his extremely intense writings can be associated with the more lyrical modernists like Joyce and Virginia Woolf." Canty kicks off our Visiting Writers Reading Series with two brand new stories, never before read aloud!

Selected books available on campus by Kevin Canty:
Nine Below Zero
Into the Great Wide Open
Rounders: A Novel
A Stranger in this World: Stories.
