Geronimo Tagatac

  Geronimo Tagatac's father was from the northern part of Luzon, in the Philippines. His mother was a Russian Jew. His stepmother is a Cajun from Happy Jack, Louisiana. He is one of six children. During the Vietnam War, Geronimo was a demolitions specialist on a 5th Special Forces A-team. He has a BA and an MA in history, and as done PhD work in political science. Geronimo has worked as a legislative consultant, a university instructor, a container ship cargo planner, a dishwasher, fry cook, folksinger, computer system planner, and a roofer. He's also had a stint as performing modern and jazz dancer. Geronimo has lived on Taiwan and in Hong Kong for a year at a time. He's traveled in western and eastern Europe, the Philippines, The People's Republic of China, Turkey, India, and Mexico. He most recently hauled his rucksack through Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.


Geronimo's short fiction has appeared in Writers Forum, The Northwest Review, Orion Magazine, The Clackamas Literary Review. He's been the recipient of an Oregon Literary Arts fellowship, and a Fishtrap Fellowship. He's taught short fiction at the Fishtrap summer writers' conference. Confluence Press plans to publish a collection of Geronimo's work, to be called, The Weight of the Sun, in 2003. He lives, and writes, in Salem, Oregon.
