Intramural Sports

IM Sports are a huge part of Whitman culture, mainly because all our varsity teams suck, except maybe skiing and tennis, but who cares about them anyways? Tau Kappa Epsilon has always been very competitive and this year will be no exception. Last year, the football, frisbee and softball teams all won the coveted blue shirts. If not for the freak injurt of Josh Maricich, basketball would have been a champion, too. Here are some of the highlights of the past two seasons.

2001-2002

Football

This year, after going undefeated during the regular season, TKE1 lost in the semi-finals to a group of dorks who live in a big white house. As long as grass grows on the earth, this will never happen again.

2000-2001

Football

This year TKE1 football defeated Sigma Chi 20-8 in the championship game. We finished the season 5-2, with both loses coming to Sigma Chi in the regular season. With this year's championship game victory, we begin another streak of TKE1 dominance in Division I football after our championship streak ended at 9 in a row last year.

The championship game was highlighted by outstanding play on both sides of the ball. Senior Adam "Wonderboy" Shick led the charge at quarterback, throwing 2 touchdown passes to Josh Maricich. John Goldmark and Kory McDow rounded out the offense with both passing and rushing yards. Senior Adam Thiessen and sophomores Ian McCullough and Ryan Janos provided the heavy hitting and held down the offensive line, and caught two tackle-eligible passes. On defense, Nate Hoffman sealed the game with a late second-half interception that prevented a sure touchdown. Kory McDow prevented another touchdown with a flying-leap swat of a pass in the endzone. John Goldmark, defensive captain, provided excellent pass coverage on the other side of the field. Austin Williamson, Spruce Schoenemann and Josh Maricich made excellent flag pulls all over the field. Props to Maricich for stepping up after not playing defense all year. Adam Thiessen rocked the defensive line, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their path in relentless pursuit of the quarterback and anyone else who happened to be around.

Special thanks to all the fans who showed up for the game, except Nate "Box" Davis, who made people cry and should have, for the good of humanity, stayed home.

Soccer

TKE soccer is over. I guess we didn't win because I didn't hear anything about it.

Basketball

Superkronic always poses to more exciting than Whitman's varity counterpart. This year's starting lineup will feature former varsity swingman Josh Maricich. Ryan Janos will hold down the other block and provide size in the paint. Bringing the ball up court will be point guard John Goldmark and off-guard Kory McDow. Coming off the bench will be TKE1 football god Adam Shick, Josh Butchart and anyone else who shows up to practive regularily. The Superkronics lost in the championship game to the staff team, which had two former varsity starters - Evan Jones and Jimmy Hill. Also factoring into the loss was the absence of Josh Maricich, who had a burned hand from a car accident. Note to Josh: your backpack is not worth sticking your hand in fire.

Frisbee

Wookie frisbee dominated for the second year in a row, winning the Blue Shirt with ease. Featuring frisbee wiz Damon Leichman, this year's team was smaller and less imposing than last year. John Goldmark, Dan McDonald and Adam Shick return from last year. Non-TKEs Jennette Goldmark also was integral part of this year's team. I don't know the rest of the details. Sorry if you weren't included.

Softball

Burgler also won a blue shirt behind the heavy hitting of Jon Drugge. Drugge, a switch hitter on the field and off, was this years biggest stick. Aric Jarrett and others provided the back-up vocals.
