Safety
We want to help all students going abroad have a safe and fruitful experience.
Before leaving for study abroad:
• Review all predeparture information sent to you by your program and
by Whitman College.
• Read carefully the U.S.
State Department Consular Information Sheets and Travel Warnings for the
country or countries you plan to visit.
• Register online with the U.S.
Embassy in the country where you will study.
Once you have arrived in your host country, take seriously information that
your program provides regarding safety issues and local norms of behavior. If
you travel independently for day trips or long trips while abroad, please leave
a copy of your itinerary and contact information with your program staff so
that you can be reached in an emergency.
