Blue Mountain Action Council & Walla Walla Community College

Blue Mountain Action Council has a mission to work with low-income people to achieve their self-sufficiency by providing vital, self-help techniques, advocacy and limited financial assistance

Walla Walla Community College has a mission to inspire students to discover their potential and to achieve their goals by providing diverse and challenging learning opportunities.

Community Fellow

A grant in 2011 allowed for a collaborative partnership between BMAC and WWCC that has resulted in the "Skill Steps" program, which serves 20-25 at risk youth per quarter. The Fellow will gain an understanding of this population and the current innovations being developed to place the target population on college and career pathways. The fellow would be assisting the partnership in the development of a 3-4 week employer mentoring program which would include doing an analysis of "best fit" businesses in Walla Walla, and collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Mountain Action Council to develop this mentoring course. The 3-4 week job mentor program will promote awareness of behaviors and attitudes, which will help the youth to acquire and keep living wage jobs.
