Residential and Day Reporting Program Assistant

DCS proposes to provide an opportunity for a Whitman student to interact with youth in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center. The Fellow will work with a variety of youth that may display mental health behaviors, students with tutoring needs, interacting with youth as a role model or supervising youth involved in community projects. The Fellow will work with corrections staff to gain an appreciation of the daily operations of a detention facility and learn the complex procedures of applying custodial programs to reframe social behavior.

Becca Caseworker

DCS proposes to provide an opportunity for a Whitman student to work with youth in the Becca Program. The Becca Program is designed to address the social issues of school truancy, behavior of youth that could lead to parents filling an at-risk youth petition and serving youth who need additional assistance through court intervention. This challenging position will expose the Fellow to numerous situations where their interpersonal skills and knowledge will be needed.
