Competition and atmosphere:
IM mini golf is arguably the most laid-back sport Whitman has to offer. The Sweet Putt reserves the course for the school one night per week from 9 to 11 p.m., and teams can play their round at their leisure within that time frame. The teams are comprised of four people, and while individual scores are recorded, in the end it is the comprehensive team score that matters. Scores are kept by each team on the honor system, and due to the nature of the sport competition isn’t particularly fierce. The first four weeks are a fight to be in the top three in the rankings. Week five is the championship week, during which the top three teams will play a final round to determine the winner of the league. Participants range from ex-varsity golfers to those who may or may not know the appropriate name for a golf club. It’s mini golf; you just can’t take it that seriously!
Quotes from participants:
"IM mini golf was an unexpected treat my senior year! An added bonus: having the games at a business that's so close to campus and run by members of the Whitman community. I recommend it to everyone, even if you've never played mini golf before." - Sam Epstein ’08
“The IM mini golf experience is a welcome respite from the competitiveness of some of the other IMs. That being said, it’s still fun to have a light-hearted quest for the coveted blue shirt. It’s a nice way to get off campus for a while and try something different.” - Cheney Doane ’15
