Practice and Present!

Feeling nervous about a presentation is natural. Almost every person feels scared. Shaking hands, butterflies in the stomach, sweating are all common feelings even for some of the most experienced speakers. There are some key steps you can take to make yourself feel more comfortable:

1. Turn the nervousness into energy for your presentation. Get a mindset of “I’m nervous; I feel tense; I have a lot of pent up energy; I’m going to use it to juice up my speaking!”

2. Practice, practice, practice. Do it over and over again until you feel more and more comfortable.

3. Mentally prepare yourself with thoughts of achieving your speaking goal. Throughout your speech, just keep saying to yourself “Hey, I’m getting there; I’m giving information; I’m persuading; Even with that little mistake, I’m still on my way.”

4. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Know your subject well. If you do, expressing it will be natural because you know it.

There are many excellent resources to assist people in overcoming the fear of public speaking. Below you will find links to just a few.
